MojoPages – a new local search engine startup in the USA
The integration of Web 2.0 technology in local search engines and directories continues to be the big trend, especially in the USA. At the end of February (2007), the latest provider unveiled “MojoPages”.
The internet startup describes itself as the “next generation” in online directories. In November 2006 it was launched in Alpha, and has now gone into beta.
MojoPages combines a traditional online directory, where approximately 15 million addresses are listed, with various and diverse social features from the Web 2.0 arena. Users can, for example, rate the search results or add listings themselves. Additionally a Community allows users to add personal profiles and facilitates inter-member contact.
Most interesting is the feature allowing the uploading and viewing of photos and videos of undertakings. Using this for example, online commenters can read and rate a report on a new restaurant in town, alongside a photo, and upload a video clip, according to MojoPages. Later readers are then able to gain a lively impression of the ‘ambiente’ of the location…
