GOD, I’M BEING VOTED!!! GfK and Company Fears of Social-Media Ratings

Like the goalkeeper’s fear of a penalty shot, firms are now afraid of online ratings. A new study about company business ratings from GoLocal and the GfK shows exactly how precautious business owners are when it comes to social media.

The thing is really fresh: never before have small, middle-classed companies (KMU) in Germany been asked what exactly they think about the fact that any average-joe can post their opinion about them all over the internet. Couldn’t come at a better time: Bitkom recently reported that nearly every second German is heavily influenced by online ratings when it comes to purchasing.

In a new study by the GfK in cooperation with the Munich based rating portal GoLocal, the suggestion has proved to be a surprise to the 500 questioned KMUs. Better said, “Online ratings are really good, important, and need to be taken seriously. I beg your pardon? We should participate as well? Uhh…wait a sec‘, I think my phone is ringing…“

Whoever would like to read the specifics of the study can do so for free on Local Search Blog:info@vabene.biz

For everyone else who wants just a quick summary: three fourths of the questioned were impressed that online recommendations and ratings can help the business. The more positive feedback, the more fame and glory. But only one in three could imagine participating by online rating communities.

What does that teach us? Gerhard Gottwalk, marketing director for GoLocal calls it “enormous backlog demand.” You could definitely say that.

How about that goalkeeper and the penalty shot?
