Google: New Offensive in the Local Advertising Sector

The doers of Mountain View are making it pop yet again. Google’s new local business center is called Google Places. That’s not only an embellished name, but also represents a number of new features. But is this move an assult on the Gelben Seiten, like t3n says?

One thing’s for certain: the search engine is giving full steam ahead in attempting to fix its previous neglect to small, middle-classed businesses. It’s now going to be considerably easier to display all desired information about themselves and their location in the internet, but of course, at first only in the USA. Included in the new features are, as mentioned by Google in its official Blog:
-Service areas
-A new, simple way to advertise
-Business photo shoots
-Customized QR codes
-Favorite places
Conclusion: the new features are definitely alluring, especially the QR codes. The renaming is actually just a logical consequence of the start of Place Pages, which Google wishes to build up as a type of “expanded advertising sector”. Until companies make the big switch from the Gelben Seiten to Places…it might be a while.
