Google’s Local Business Center: Still On-Site

Google is still going with the flow: Mountain View has finally realized that there are a lot of small companies with a local-base, but don’t necessarily operate locally.

This means: the local branch opens itself as a small business, which serves customers on-site, but also in other locations. Though they can always register themselves, the superficial web-based search always presents an issue. What use is it for a realtor in Munich when he has properties in Upper Bavaria to sell?

Google allows such businesses to define their “Service Areas” without giving up their address. Great for people who work in the home office and aren’t quite ready for this to become their public office. The hitch: it’s only available in Beta and in the United States.
