Social Networks: Less Active Users Than Expected

The latest W3B study from the market development and advising company Fittkau & Maß Consulting revealed some surprising information: 62% of the current internet users on social networks visit the sites on a regular basis (at least once a week) but only 35%, and from this group merely 40% are really active users. The majority is rather passive, in other words, watches from the sidelines.

The biggest social networks were brought under the scope by the market developers, especially focusing on in which communities the majority of active networkers hang around, and in their community then communicate, post new content, or comment. Per activity level, Myspace leads the pack, with 56%, followed closely by StudiVZ and MeinVZ. Facebook, the market leader, only made 4th place with 41%.

For this study, Fittkau & Maß Consulting questioned over 7,500 German speaking visitors of social networks in April and May of this year.
