Who’s Afraid of Facebook?
It doesn’t take a genius to realize what’s going on with Facebook right now. Though all of the kinks have yet to be fixed with the new Place feature, market researcher Comscore has come up with some spectacular numbers: Facebook is just one step away from beating Yahoo as the third most visited website in the world.
The search engine remained in front of Facebook in July with 622 million visitors – but with a lead of only 50 million. A year ago, there was a difference of more than 200 million. If the curve continues to follow its trend, Facebook has a pretty good chance of getting the “bronze” by the end of the year.
It’s even more dramatic when you look at the number of visits on each site, as opposed to visitors. Yahoo has only got a lead of 100 million visits, which is baby-steps for the social networking giant Facebook, currently with 250 million visits, to achieve. It appears as if Facebook is inching closer and closer to Bing and Google.
No wonder that Facebook is becoming more and more interesting for marketing. a href=”http://techcrunch.com/2010/08/16/advertising-social-networks-3-3-billion/”>Estimates state that the community currently holds 40% of the costs for social media advertising – in total a market worth 3.3 billion USD with a growth rate of 30% per year.
