“Peanut Butter and Chocolate“: Deal Hunting on SCVNGR

It had to come eventually: couponing and check-ins are getting married. The pair are now available through the geolocation server SCVNGR and the deal provider BuyWithMe – a love affair like that of peanut butter and chocolate, at least according to the techblog TechCrunch. As if that weren’t enough. SCVNGR offers a practical new widget for businesses on Facebook Places.
Finally some change in the otherwise boring world of check-ons: if someone gets a deal on BuyWithMe, they can then get even more through SCVNGR and gain more points through the local server, by checking in on location, taking funny pictures of the store or the QR-Codes. The fantasy pretty much has no boundries, so long as the store owner wants to participate.
Example: in the Mecury Bar in New York, there are 5 points available for everyone who redesigns the solar system with the accessories of their cocktails and then takes a picture of it. Defitienly an “interesting” idea, but worth it nonetheless. Because as soon as you get enough points, the bartenders will either give you a round on them or give you 25% off dinner. After all, cherry tomatoes do make a great Mars!
And if that isn’t enough, the creators from Cambridge have an interesting extra with their widget for Facebook Places. Companies who offer their customers rewards on SCVNGR can automatically advertise this on Facebook Places. The approach is simple yet catchy: business owners who haven’t been bringing in much extra dough for offering promotions to SCVNGR users can now use the widget and their Facebook account to open up the back door, in a manner of speaking…
