Jung von Matt Steals Locations: “Stealthiest Recruitment Campaign Yet?”
The European spin-off of the tech-blog TechCrunch is impressed from a true guerilla campaign in Germany. Just in time for the launch of Facebook Places in the country, the advertising agency Jung von Matt (JvM) captured the position of competitors in a pirate-like matter. But how?
Actually, it was pretty easy. Using a VPN connection, the Stuttgart based establishment a US IP address, and was able to apple Facebook Places to Germany. The rest sort of just fell into place. JvM claimed locations that actually belonged to the competition for themselves. Facebook Places then launched, and what happened? Everyone that checked in through a competitor of JvM got a suprizing message on their mobile.
For example:
“First! Wanna be involved? Then check-in at www.jvm-neckar.de/jobs, we’re searching for some new brains.”
Or:
“Greetings from the stomach of the Trojan horse. Turn your skewer around and check-in at www.jvm-neckar.de/jobs, we’re searching for some new brains.”
The competitors hit by the act of piracy were Neye Digitale/Razorfish (Frankfurt), Interone (Hamburg), Fork Unstable Media (Hamburg), Kolle Rebbe (Hamburg), AKQA (Berlin) and Argonauten G2 (Berlin).
Perhaps, at least, according to TechCrunch, this is one of the “stealthiest recruitment campaigns yet”.
