Yahoo Tests New Local Search
The new location-based search from Yahoo, which is currently being testing in the USA, should be “hyper-local”. The current beta-version of Yahoo Local doesn’t focus on finding restaurants, doctors, or other vendors and service providers, but rather on news, events, and deals in cities and smaller communities.
Yahoo Local’s goal is to become the best place for people who want to know what is going on in their neighborhood, according to Yahoo’s blog. Only time can tell is the project will be successful. The news will not only come from newspapers and blogs, but will include articles from the entire community, Yahoo texts, and regional authors. And for those that would like to write and article themselves, the process is quite simple, according to the blog. In addition, users can add events using organization. The final point is that users can search for deals and discounts on-site.
Currently the new local search is being tested in 30 cities in the USA. The offering is expanding continuously for more regions and features. Those who wish to try out the beta-version can access it at http://beta.local.yahoo.com.
