Poynt: German Version for iPhone

The mobile local search Poynt is now available in Germany as app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application will be complimented by the local search engine suchen.de, which is already a cooperative partner for the Poynt apps for Android and BlackBerry.

Those that download this free app in the iTunes App Store won’t have any problems on-the-go. Poynt can help users find the next café, hotel, or shopping center without any major difficulties. The app can also display information about public offices and tourist sights. For all of the results, information is displayed including contact information, websites, or for movie theaters show times.

Thanks to GPS localization, Poynt automatically delivers search results to users’ standpoint. Those that would like to search in a different city also have the option of manually inserting the preferred location.

Users can not only view the results as a list or on the map, but also as an interactive real-time display of the results using the augmented-reality-feature “Poynt 360”. Results are displayed in the form of symbols using the live-view of surroundings with the help of GPS, compass, and the iPhone camera.

The Canadian company Poynt has gone global and now offers its mobile services in the USA, Canada, Australia, and Europe. In Germany, the company has worked tightly with suchen.de, the company Searchteq GmbH [a holding company of Deutsche Telekom Medien GmbH (DeTeMedien)], and a number of partner publishers since the launch of the BlackBerry app in May of 2009.
