suchen.mobi: LBS On the Go

Okay, so the app has actually been around for quite awhile now. But not until last week did the company Searchteq publically present its location-based service suchen.mobi at the T-City-Tag in Friedrichshafen. The free smartphone app delivers local information on-the-go and helps get a quick orientation.

Suchen.mobi is pretty much the mobile version of the local search engine suchen.de, which offers its search results on the app. No surprise there, seeing as how Searchteq also runs suchen.de. Suchen.mobi users get information such as addresses, detailed descriptions, user ratings, and business hours for service providers, companies, stores, and restaurants. Results are shown on an interactive map, which is provided by Microsoft’s search engine Bing. The user’s current location can either be located per GPS or be entered manually. A profile can also be created in order to save favorites.

One big perk for smartphone users in and around Friedrichshafen: in addition to the information provided above, users can also find bicycle, hiking, and sightseeing tours. A pity that this information is only available in this small portion of Germany. But suchen.mobi is a pilot project which Searchteq is diligently working on with DeTeMedien, the regional search engine marketing firm advantago, the .wtv Württemberger Telefonbuch Verlag, and the portal outdooractive.com as contracted in T-City Friedrichshafen. The feature just needs a bit more time to gain some speed.

The application is available for the iPhone in the app store, as well as other smartphones like Google G2 or the Nokia N900 over the URL http://suchen.mobi.
