Meinestadt.de: Features for Sport and Travel

The city portal meinestadt.de has pepped up its interactive city guide: not only are traffic alerts integrated, but also hiking, jogging, walking, skating, and biking trails. meinestadt.de wanted to offer its users the new features just in time for the summer season to enhance their travel planning experience, according to a press release. The city guides are available in the “Tourismus” rubric, or hidden behind “Services” and “Adressen”. And for those that can’t manage that, they can simply enter http://www.meinestadt.de/deutschland/stadtplan into their browser.
The new features really are practical: traffic alerts display congestion, construction zones, or hazards sent directly from the traffic information center at the district council of Cologne, which arrive in five minute intervals so that the current situation on German motorways can be assessed. With the integrated options for sport activities, not only can users plan their route but also change it during their travels. The routes can be downloaded onto GPS devices through GPSies.com.
It would be easier if the options were available for the Android and iPhone apps. This is unfortunately not the case. Upon questioning from the Local Search Blog, allesklar.com AG, the operator of the city portal, did mention that concrete plans are in progress to integrate these features in the mobile applications.
