TomTom Navigation Devices Now Featuring Apps
It’s hard to imagine anyone driving around with maps and hand-written directions anymore, all thanks to personal navigation devices like TomTom. But since personal navigation systems have been released, there hasn’t been many dramatic changes, that is until now: TomTom has announced that its Go Live 1535 M will be the first PNS offering apps like Twitter, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Expedia, in addition to the TomTom’s VIA connected services displaying fuel prices, weather, and Google’s local search.
Unfortunately for PNSs, this move may be coming a bit too late, considering that just about any decent smartphone is also capable as acting as a navigation system. But the release may help the market a bit. Though the apps are not quite what they are on a smartphone, for those addicted to Tweeting their every move, an automatic Twitter post when the user arrives at their goal could be useful. Nevertheless, the device comes with a hefty price tag starting at $299.
