Eco-Friendly Travel With rome2rio
Being eco-friendly is certainly nothing new, but very few know just how much impact they really have, especially when it comes to travel. rome2rio, a search engine startup created by two ex-Microsoft engineers, hopes to change that through a new partnership with Offset Options, a company that describes itself as being “committed to environmental and social sustainability.” Now users can search for ways to travel all over the world (hence the name, Rome2Rio) and search for the most eco-friendly way to get from A to B.
The site allows users to search for a route from one point to another, but unlike Google Maps, methods of transportation such as rail, ferries, flights, and car are displayed. Users can look at the different ways to reach their desired location and also see how many tonnes of CO2emissions their method of transportation will have. Users also have the option to book a project that will offset their emissions, sponsored directly by Offset Options. “Carbon offsetting is a service: the purchaser pays someone else to create greenhouse gas reductions on his or her behalf. Buying a carbon offset means investing in projects that avoid, reduce, remove, or destroy harmful greenhouse gas emissions.”
