Foursquare: App Update with new Location-Based Alert Service

The location-based check-in platform Foursquare gives all iPhone 4 and 4S devices with the new Apple operating system iOS 5 a new, innovative feature, thanks to the latest update of its application: “Radar”, a geolocation service which alerts users automatically if they are near a location or friend on their to-do list.
Those who download the latest version of Foursquare-Version 4.0.1 can begin using the new feature immediately by clicking on the “Radar” icon on the upper-left side. The service will begin alerting users if they are, for example, approaching a café where friends are, according to the Foursquare blog. And to make a meeting even more possible, the location is displayed on a map. “Radar” also sends a message to the iPhone if the fitness club that you’ve been wanting to visit for a while is right around the corner. How does Radar know things like this? Quite simple: the fitness center is in the to-do list. So the service gathers this information from all users and relays it further to people on your friends list. So “historical highlights” or “traditional kitchens” can be marked in new cities and other users can see what you’re recommending.

And what if there are so many notifications that the user has to run from one meeting to another? Simply click the “Radar” icon again to shut it off.
