Google Maps Featuring Helicopter View
Last week, Google announced in its new “helicopter view” feature for Google Maps. Paul Yang, Google Maps engineer, wrote the following:
“Getting directions is one of the most popular features on Google Maps, whether it be for driving, walking, biking or transit. Today, we are launching a new feature that allows you to bring your upcoming trip to life, by allowing you to preview your route in 3D.”
The feature is only available to users who have downloaded the Google Earth plug-in onto their computers, which just reached one billion downloads since its release in 2005 last week. The feature allows users to see how scenic their route is going to be, and just what kind of a drive it is. Google keeps surprising its users with neat little features right and left, and we’ve got to admit, the guys (and gals) at Mountain View have got style.
