Google Maps: App for Android Now with Indoor Navigation

The latest version of the Google Maps app 6.0 for Android has an interesting new feature: indoor navigation. Until now, users could find their way outdoors thanks to a handy blue dot showing the user’s current location. Now, users can take advantage of this option indoors.
The search engine giant has cooperated with large shopping centers, airports, as well as train stations throughout the USA and Japan to create detailed building plans for its local search app Google Maps. The indoor navigation starts automatically when users zoom into buildings that have a detailed plan already integrated. The little blue dot leads users to their current location in buildings and travels with the user when he/she moves. If the user changes level, the map automatically changes. Many users will find this particularly helpful while trying to navigate larger buildings like Ikea.

The helpful feature is only available for select buildings throughout the US and Japan, but the Google Blog claims this feature will soon expand to other locations worldwide.
