Investors Strengthening Coupon-Market
Despite numerous speculations regarding the end of the never-ending row of online coupons, but investors continue to pump large sums into companies like LivingSocial and Plum District. The deal portals, which have specialized themselves in location-based group deals, especially wish to expand their unique selling points with the extended financial support in order to improve their position against competition. But the competition is still strong: the leader of the pack Groupon has introduced a new online-booking possibility with an appointment planner with its new Groupon Scheduler.
A whopping 175 million dollars of addition capital has been given to LivingSocial according to report from Mashable, which was collected from previous as well as new investors. The money could grant the portal the possibility of providing new offerings different than those provided by Groupon. About one month ago, LivingSocial introduced a new service: Room Service, with which users can have food from restaurants delivered right to their door – even with silverware and the like.
In the meantime, Groupon is trying to secure its place with its new feature: Groupon Scheduler, an online appointment planner for service providers and users of the daily deals. The appointment planner offers more than the typical services of the standard offerings, according to the company. Users can now purchase daily deals, and service providers can integrate a direct-booking button to their websites and grant their employees access to this. Groupon Scheduler is based on the technology provided by the services of OpenCal, a startup taken over this September.
PlumDistrict, a special daily-deal platform for mothers, also received a hefty addition to its portfolio: the platform received over 20 million dollars from various investors, while purchasing two new startups, according to TechCrunch. Chatterfly, which allows users to gather bonuses for purchases, as well as the direct competitor DoodleDeals, a deal service for parents, were both taken over by the company. With Chatterfly’s technology, DoodleDeals’ users, and the newly added capital, Plum District hopes to expand its coverage as well as strengthen the bond between mothers and companies.
