Local Search via Directories Growing and: The Book Is Still Supreme

The eleventh representation Ipsos-study about the use of directories has released some amazing results: not only do 96.3 percent of all Germans use various directories in their search for private and business contacts in addition to shopping possibilities, but also that the printed version remains the most popular. This makes 2011 the busiest year for directories, despite competition from search engines and other locally and regionally oriented media forms, according to the VDAV (Verband Deutscher Auskunfts- und Verzeichnismedien), who directed the study.
The book remains the most popular choice, despite speculations about the death of the printing press: 79.5 percent of the surveyed use printed directories. In comparison to the previous year, there is an increase of two percent. Even in the age group below 49, more users prefer the printed version than various online sources.
But it is apparent that many Germans use both to help in a search: according to the survey, more than half of the users used their computers to access directories for finding companies, addresses, and phone numbers. This demonstrates that online use is also growing, considering this number was close to 45 percent in the previous year. Six percent of the users conducted a search using their mobile device. Though this number sounds quite small, three years ago, it lay by about 1.4 percent.

2,000 people from ago 14 on were surveyed about their use of directory services for the November 2011 survey by the market research bureau Ipsos assigned by VDAV.
