TomTom: Local Search App Now for Android
The free local search application “Places” from TomTom is now available for Android smartphone users, just three months after the launch of the iPhone app. Users can find stores, restaurants, and sights in their vicinity within eight countries. The app combines data from ten million POIs (Points of Interest) from local directories in the corresponding country, according to TomTom. In Germany, the company is working together with Gelbe Seiten.
The app is available in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Those who download the app for their smartphones do not only see shops, hotels, restaurants, or tourist attractions in the vicinity, but can see these listed on a map complete with a route planner. The app also takes the current traffic conditions into consideration. Users also receive user-ratings, as well as detail information such as opening times or weblinks.
