T-Online.de Starting Up Local Search
The 25 million user strong general interest online portal T-Online.de is now joining the local search bandwagon: as a response to the growing demand for local services and information, the service massively expanded its regional offering at the beginning of October. Users now have access to 346 city and county portals with regional to local news, information, and services available, according to a press release from the Deutsche Telekom, the carrier of the online portal. Trover-App: Location-Based Discovery Network Now For Android
Android users can now enjoy the mobile Trover application to discover their current location or even the entire world with location-based photos. The start-up company Trover launched in July of this year with its iPhone app. Now the “mobile discovery network” has over 100 thousand users in 160 countries around the world, according to the site. Facebook Announces News-Ticker and Timeline
Well well well, if this isn’t a prompt response to the new features on Google+: at the developer conference F8, the founder and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg introduced some dramatic changes to the largest social network. Facebook will be developing the profiles, or the core of Facebook, into Timelines. The Timeline will allow users to tell the story of their lives on a page. Google+ Stirring Up A Storm: Traffic Increase of 1269%!?
Google+ is making waves in the social media domain. After the site officially went public last week, traffic increased 1269%, according to new data from Experian Hitwise. Google+’s ranking thereby went from 54th to 8th within one week in Hitwise’s Social Networking and Forums category. The new success should cause for some unrest amongst the competitors at Facebook, which conveniently released a number of new features last week, many of which have been criticized as ‘copying’ Google+.
