The online directory and ratings portal golocal is anxiously waiting for chatty, advice-seeking, and just plain communicative people to take advantage of their new features, which makes the exchange of information even more user-friendly.

Golocal: Augmented Reality App for iPhone
As the first German rating community, the Das Örtliche partner golocal has launched an iPhone app with augmented reality. With the new feature, users can not only see their surroundings in real time using their camera, but also receive information about locations on-site through the live symbol masking.
Those who download the free app in the app store and then register can directly jump into the service: after clicking on the “Radar” symbol, or going into the “Alles in der Nähe (Eng. Everything Close-by)” rubric within “Radar”, little signs pop up around the current view which display the current contact point of the user. With a touch of a finger, handy information like the name of the location, address, distance, as well as ratings from community members can be displayed. With this, users have the ability to know where the next café, restaurant, hotel, theater, museum, or movie theater is. Augmented reality is made possible through the iPhone camera, compass, and GPS. In addition, users can use all the functions of the PC version, like checking-in, uploading pictures, and the reading and writing of ratings.
suchen.de Integrates Ratings from golocal
Starting immediately, the local search engine suchen.de provides ratings for the search results. This is made possible through the partnership with the rating-community golocal.
GoYellow sells GoLocal
GoLocal.de only started up in March (2008) (see our report). The ratings portal has just changed hands for two million Euros.
GoYellow Media AG announced this in a press release. Until now, the ratings portal has been operated by GoLocal GmbH & Co. KG, a daughter company of GoYellow Media AG. According to the report, the mother company, which owns the online-directory GoYellow.de, among other companies, has sold all their shares in the daughter company to GoLocal Holding GmbH & Co. KG – pending approval from regulators. Associates of the new purchaser include various directory publishers.
GoYellow Media AG will still however continue to operate the directory information portal GoYellow.de, in an ongoing cooperation with the yellow-page publishers that has continued to be expanded since April 2007. GoYellow Media AG intends to concentrate on the national and international development of the online telephone service PeterZahlt.de [translated as 'PeterPays'].
GoLocal.de now available out and about
At the beginning of March 2008, the local ratings platform GoLocal.de was launched (see our report). And as then announced, its operators GoLocal GmbH&Co. KG (a daughter of GoYellow Media AG) implemented a mobile version of this Web2.0 portal in June 2008.
As detailed by the operators in a press release, the whole ‘desktop’ offering is now available in a mobile equivalent (accessed at m.golocal.de) and useable on any internet-ready mobile device.
GoLocal mobile phone or PDA users can now search for providers in a chosen town, such as businesses, restaurants or doctors, call up event listings and also view the location of the generated results on a map. To do this, one enters the desired ‘location’ (town/postal code and a key word, and a list of results is presented. An aside– in our test, the entry of a street name as a search word did not work for us. Pity too, that there is no Route Planner.
As to be expected for a ratings portal, the user can call up location rankings assigned by fellow users, as well as creating further ratings themselves. Anyone is able to score short ratings, without being registered. Whoever so wishes, can choose from preselected key words and assigned up to 5 stars. In order to rate in more detail, registration is required. Using the mobile version of GoLocal.de, the same username and password as the desktop-version are valid. Members can also save their most-liked locations under ‘Favorites’, save interesting events (under ‘My Events’) or flag specific locations under the ‘Notes’ (de=’Merkzettel’) section.
