Twitter’s next try at the local search: the tweeting service announced a new feature at the Chirp-Conference in San Francisco, which is considered to be the first step to becoming a local directory – Points of Interest. Google Maps bohrt die lokale Suche weiter auf: Jetzt kann man sich zu einem konkreten Standort alle Ergebnisse aus dem Web direkt auf einer Übersichtsseite, der „Place Page“, anschauen.

Der Weg dorthin führt über die bekannte Info-„Blase“, die sich beim Anklicken eines Treffers auf der Karte von Google Maps öffnet. Wenn man dort jetzt auf „mehr Infos“ klickt, gelangt man zu der Übersichtsseite. „Eine Place Page ist eine Webseite für jeden Ort auf der Welt, die jede weltweit verfügbare Information zu diesem Ort zusammenstellt“, schreibt Avni Shah im Google Lat Long Blog. Sein bevorzugter Schoko-Shop ist das Burdick Chocolate Cafe in Boston, an dessen Beispiel er den neuen Service zeigt. Kontaktdaten, Öffnungszeiten, Fotos, Routenplaner, Bewertungen  – das alles kann man auf der Place Page auf einen Blick sehen. Verfügbar ist das Feature ebenso für Sehenswürdigkeiten, Städte oder auch  geografische Ziele.
