TomTom Navigation Devices Now Featuring Apps

It’s hard to imagine anyone driving around with maps and hand-written directions anymore, all thanks to personal navigation devices like TomTom. But since personal navigation systems have been released, there hasn’t been many dramatic changes, that is until now: TomTom has announced that its Go Live 1535 M will be the first PNS offering apps like Twitter, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Expedia, in addition to the TomTom’s VIA connected services displaying fuel prices, weather, and Google’s local search. Facebook: Mobile First with the App-App

For the community giant Facebook, there is one clear goal: this year, all the focus will be on going mobile. No wonder, seeing as how 200 million of the 600 million users use the network with their cellulars.
At the Inside Mobile Apps in San Francisco, Facebook CTO Brett Taylor let the cat out of the back as he said that the company will be focusing its effort on the mobile market. “Mobile devices are inherently social,” declared Taylor on the podium. Vodafone invests in Qype


Vodafone Ventures, the investment department of the cellular company, has given Qype a cash injection of 3.5 million Euro. An additional 3 million Euro is being given to the popular local recommendation portal by existing investors, Advent Venture Partners, Partech International, and Wellington Partners. Using social media outlets as a way to draw in customers has pretty much become mandatory for even directories worldwide. Directories, local search engines, rating portals – they’ve all got the social media fever. An interesting example is the Herold in Austria, who introduced the Facebook application “Locations ilike”.
